Food Complaints
Programs that accept and, where possible, attempt to resolve complaints regarding the purity, safety, wholesomeness, packaging, weighing, labeling or other problems with meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy products, produce, packaged foodstuffs or other food products. Included are complaints regarding food contamination, discolouration or adulteration; pesticide residues; false grading or marking; misbranding; content or quantity labeling errors; or other deceptive packaging or labeling practices. Also included are programs that accept and manage complaints about pet food and animal feed.
Product Quality Standards
Programs that establish and enforce for the benefit of producers, marketers and the public, uniform standards for grading products which are indicative of product quality; and standards for the freshness, purity, wholesomeness and hygienic conditions for processing domestic, imported and exported food and food products.
Dietitian/Nutritionist Referrals
Programs that maintain lists of dietitians and nutritionists, and link individuals with qualified practitioners who can help them develop healthy eating habits and change their diet, if necessary, to manage their weight, reduce their cholesterol levels, lower their blood pressure, deal with diabetes or prevent and/or treat other health concerns.
Nutrition Education
Programs that provide information concerning the basic principles of healthful eating, food handling, food preparation and shopping skills. Included is information about the basic food groups, vitamin and mineral requirements, the relationship of nutrition to the preservation of good health and the prevention of illness, and dietary choices such as vegetarianism.
