Firearm Buyback/Exchange Programs
Programs, generally operated by law enforcement agencies, that encourage individuals to voluntarily turn in unwanted firearms, no questions asked, usually in exchange for cash, vouchers for goods and services or other incentives. Once collected, law enforcement officials identify stolen guns and those involved in ongoing criminal investigations, and then destroy the remainder.
Shooting
Programs, often offered by local gun and rifle clubs, that provide opportunities for people to learn, become competitive in and enjoy shooting. The programs are generally open to people of all ability levels; have divisions for juveniles as well as adults; provide practice and training sessions; offer firearm safety education; and may sponsor or make arrangements for members to participate in local competitions in which marksmen and women use pistols, rifles and/or shotguns to fire at stationary or moving targets from either a standing or prone position.
