Description (Service) | Donation program for persons who choose to donate their whole bodies for educational purposes * fundamental to education of students in anatomical, medical and the health sciences * important foundation for further studies in medical, dental, nursing, physiotherapy, massage therapy, emergency and first response careers, careers in health sciences and medical illustration * vital part of the education of numerous high school and college students taking life sciences, as well as for health care professionals in numerous fields requiring professional educational development workshops in anatomy or continuing medical education credits; this gift of learning is received with gratitude and the anatomy program is conducted with the deepest of respect and dignity to all donors **Donations cannot be accepted without consent of the next-of-kin or executor. It is strongly recommended that potential donors discuss their wishes with their family. It is suggested that the donor also informs their physician and funeral director of their wishes. The next-of-kin, executor, or person lawfully in charge of the body must be in a position to act immediately following the donor's death. Donations must fall within the acceptance criteria for the Human Anatomy Program at the University of Guelph. Families must be prepared for a second option if an anatomy school in Ontario is unable to accept the body. Those wishing to have a medically assisted death also have the opportunity to discuss body donation with the human anatomy program at the University of Guelph. |

Eligibility | Ages: 40 year(s) and up Anyone may donate their body. However, laboratory and storage capacity, illnesses, condition of body and cause of death largely determine who may be accepted. Suitability for acceptance will be determined as soon as possible at the time of death. Information on exclusion and inclusion criteria is available from the Human Anatomy Office, University of Guelph. |
