Provides Canadians with information and tools to access unclaimed properties held by the Bank of Canada, including bank balances, Canada Savings Bonds, Canada Premium Bonds, Government of Canada bonds and Canada RSP and Canada RIF plans.  
 
An “unclaimed balance” is a Canadian-dollar account, deposit or negotiable instrument issued or held by a federally regulated bank or trust company that has been transferred to the Bank of Canada after it has been inactive for a period of ten years and the owner cannot be contacted 
 
Only the following types of unclaimed balances are held by the Bank of Canada

 Accounts:

• current/chequing accounts
• savings accounts 

Deposits:

• positive credit card balances
• term deposits
• Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GICs)
• deposit receipts 

Retail debt products:

• Canada Savings Bonds
• Canada Premium Bonds
• The Canada RSP
• The Canada RIF plans
• Government of Canada bonds.

Negotiable Instruments:

• bank drafts
• certified cheques
• money orders
• official cheques
• traveller's cheques

• amounts under $1000 are held for 30 years
• amounts of $1000 and over are held for 100 years
• if the balance remains unclaimed at the end of the prescribed custody period the Bank of Canada transfers the funds to the Receiver General for Canada
